Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University has passed a complex and honorable path and has provided special services in the field of education, science, national culture, organization, evolution and comprehensive development of our republic. The Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, which was established on August 26, 1921 on the basis of the decree of the Chairman of the Council of People's Commissars Nariman Narimanov "On the organization of the Higher Pedagogical Men's Institute", turned 100 years old in 2021. The Pedagogical University has trained more than 160,000 highly qualified teachers during its years of operation. Since the university was established, a library has also been established. In the early days, the library fund was formed at the expense of the teachers' lecture texts, but now the library fund contains approximately 750,000 copies of printed products. The fund of the center is rich in books, booklets, doctoral theses, master's theses, abstracts, scientific periodical magazines published abroad and many printed products. At the same time, there are literatures in Azerbaijani, Russian, English, French, German, Arabic, Persian, and Turkish languages in the fund. The library is one of the pioneers among the republic's higher school libraries due to the richness of  its fund, the number of readers, rare and valuable books.

National leader H. Aliyev called libraries "a sacred place for the people, a source of spirituality and intelligence." The national leader, who greatly appreciates books and libraries, is known as the author of valuable, multi-volume books that are not available to many world leaders. On the initiative of H. Aliyev, laws on separate areas of culture were adopted in our republic.

In 1999, the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Library Work" was adopted. In recent years, the president of our republic, Ilham Aliyev, has been implementing the library policy with great skill, which was founded by the national leader H. Aliyev. On April 20, 2007, the decree "On improving the activities of libraries in Azerbaijan" signed by the President once again proves that Ilham Aliyev is a worthy follower of the great leader Heydar Aliyev's policy in the field of library work as well as in all fields.

By the decision of Scientific Council of ASPU dated october 26, 2016, the Statute of the University's Library-Information Center was approved. The Library Information Center currently has 27 employees and serves readers with the departments "Service to readers", "Collection and bibliography", "Bibliography and Information", "Organization of electronic resource and electronic catalog".

Currently, the library's fund consists of 748,147 copies of literature. Of these, 683,692 copies of books and booklets, 3,240 magazines, 1,192 dissertations, 17,587 abstracts, and 4,799 master's dissertations are made up.

Currently, the library stock includes 47,360 textbooks and textbooks with 640 names in the Cyrillic alphabet, and 62,712 copies with 9,451 names in the Latin alphabet. Of these, 24,850 copies are textbooks and teaching aids.

Among the ASPU publications that are regularly included in the Library-Information Center are the "Mathematics and Natural Sciences" series of the "News of the Pedagogical University" magazine, the "Humanitarian, Social and Pedagogical-Psychological Sciences" series, the scientific-theoretical and scientific "History, Man and Society" -methodical magazine, "Actual problems of music science, culture and education" magazine, "ICT in education", "Master's" periodical scientific magazine, "Physics, mathematics and informatics teaching" scientific-theoretical and methodological compilation, "Linguistics problems" international scientific magazine etc. journals are resources that faculty constantly refer to.

On October 4, 2021, service unit number  6 of the Center started operating in the Training and Education Center of the Institute of Education with the initiative of the Minister of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Emın Amrullayev and the participation of the university management within the framework of the SABAH master's program of ASPU and the dual diploma program with George Washington University.

In 2021, the Library-Information Center in the main educational building was renovated at a high level by the initiative of the Ministry of Education and the university administration, with the financial support of the BP company. In this regard, the application of advanced technologies, as well as the process of digitalization of the library, have been implemented. Automated Library Information System (ALIS) will be implemented in the center. With the help of the implemented software (RUSLAN-NEO), it will be possible to control the entire collection of the library, and the entire work structure will be controlled by an electronic database. Also, obtaining all information related to any funds registered in the fund, access to the electronic library, registration of readers, assembly, bookbinding, electronic catalog, job assignment of employees, calculation of library expenses will be completely controlled by the electronic database. Additionally, the software is integrated with the university's student registration database.

According to the project, chipping of the materials in the fund and entering the chipped materials into the software created through hand terminals, installing special doors at the entrance and exit of the building for reading the chips, installing desktop terminals for reading the chips during the handover of books, as well as installation of a special terminal for handing over funds without approaching the registration section will enable work processes to be carried out more quickly, and will allow users to use the electronic library more conveniently.

The Library-Information Center serves readers with 6 service departments and 5 reading rooms in 5 educational buildings.

During the spring and winter exam session, the Library Information Center serves readers from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

In modern age, libraries have the task of acquiring, protecting and transmitting information with modern content, benefiting from the application of automated library-information systems along with traditional information products, by clearly influencing and integrating the development process of the information industry.

The past traditions of library work should be continued today with modern methods. However, in accordance with the requirements of the modern era, the organization of an electronic catalog, an electronic library, the creation of databases, and the provision of a new virtual service to readers are among the priority issues facing the libraries.

Since 2012, ASPU's Library-Information Center has been serving readers with the IRBIS-64 ALIS-Library Information System of the ELNIT Association of the Russian Federation. IRBIS-64 ALIS-Library Information System ensures the automation of all library processes, from collection of the fund to book delivery. In addition, every Internet user can use the library's electronic catalog and other electronic resources through its Web page.

IRBIS-64 AKIS-is implemented in more than 1500 libraries in about 20 countries of the world. This automated management system meets all international requirements in the field of information and communication technologies and modern library-bibliography standards and forms. Works on all local networks. It can be integrated into corporate library systems and technologies. It is compatible with Web technology and Z39.50 protocol. It is fully compatible with UNIMARC, USMARC, MARC21, RUSMARC formats. IRBIS-ALIS confers the formats of international ALIS. IRBIS ALIS also operates the automated workplaces "Collector", "Cataloguer", "Reader", "Book delivery" and "Administrator".

Our library, which is undergoing a period of transition from IRBIS-64 ALIS-Library Information System to RUSLAN-NEO Automated Library Information System (ALIS), is equipped with advanced technologies and serves readers.

Currently, the electronic catalog contains 80,488 copies of literature with a total of 11,318 titles.

In order to increase the number of resources of the electronic library, the digitization of 630 textbooks and teaching aids has been completed and the digitization works are currently being continued.
