All the processes taking place in our world, which is full of various social, political and historical events, finally find their perfect solution by applying to the archive. Our university, which is more than a century old, has a rich, large archive that meets modern requirements.

Azerbaijan State Men's Pedagogical Institute was established by decree No. 66 dated 26.08.1921 signed by N. Narimanov. Classes started on November 15, 1921 with 6 students.

A few years after the establishment of the institute, it can be said that the institute's archive was created.

Until 1934, it was called the Higher Pedagogical Institute.

Since 1935, it has been operating as the ASPI in the name of V. I. Lenin.

 According to the decision No. 76 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 01.04.1991, it was decided to transform the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical Institute named after V. I. Le into the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University named after V. I. Lenin.

          According to the decision No. 392 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 26, 1991, the name of the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University named after V.I.Lenin was changed to Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University named after N.Tusi.

It was named Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University according to the decree No. 349 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated June 13, 2000.

As a result of the joining of the Azerbaijan Teachers' Institute to ADPU by the Decree of the President of the country dated November 26, 2015 and the inclusion of its branches into the structure of ADPU, ADPU has become a single specialized higher education institution engaged in the training of pedagogical personnel in the country.

Implementation of the former President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, great leader, Mr. Heydar Aliyev, dated June 22, 1999 No. 694-1Q "On the National Archive Fund", and July 27, 1999 No. 168 "On the National Archive Fund" Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on March 6, 2000 No. 32 of the Cabinet of Ministers on "Inclusion, removal or destruction of archives, archival funds and collections of documents in the composition of the National archive fund" at the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, headed by a very large work has been done. One of the most important innovations is the computerization of the archive.

Since 1931, many documents of ASPU, documents of students, teachers and staff have been preserved in the archive of our university.

Currently, the archive of our university is located in the III administrative building, Nasibbey Yusifbeyli 62.

 In the archive, the personal documents of the students of the relevant faculty are perfectly preserved for 25 years, 75 years, personal documents of the university employees, accounting documents, orders and other documents with a permanent retention period.

According to the last accounting data of the archive (passport of the archive for 2019), 32,199 storage units for the years 1931-2017 are stored in the university archive, of which 7,519 storage units are permanent, and 24,680 storage units consist of personnel documents.

The organization of archival work in the university is carried out by the archivist and archivists under the direct supervision of the management.
